Day Off

The typical day off for a quilt shop owner means that you're not actually going into your shop. I find that most people don't realise what goes into running a quilt shop so hopefully this blog will show some insight into my day. I'm starting this on my day off because this is when I normally have the most time to sit down at the computer without rushing out the door to get to the shop early to get paperwork or cleaning done before I open the doors.

So my typical day off includes cleaning, laundry, shopping, you know, the normal day off stuff, except add in, figuring out what's coming up at the shop, classes, quilts to Long Armed, new fabric by people like Robyn Pandolph and Moda, so you can see that my "normal" day off is anything but.

Yesterday I did manage to finish up some blocks for a store sample, very quilt and easy pattern called "crazy eights" and boy does it look crazy. I don't have alot of time to piece or quilt but yesterday it was raining and windy, the husband was out of town and the girls seemed content laying at my feet under the table. This was the first quilt in a long time that I actually got to square up my blocks all at one time, boring, but necessary. I kept thinking "am I done yet", now I know why I've been doing lots of small wall hangings.

Okay, that'll about do it from here, need to doing all of that running around so I can get back home and finish up that quilt top, it needs to be in the store tomorrow so I can put out the kits for everyone to enjoy. I'll try and post often with interesting and even some non-interesting stuff that happens during the day of a quilt shop owner.
Happy Quilting
